There’s nothing more relaxing than a morning surf with you buddies in Pacific Beach. Whether it’s a dawn patrol session or a natural hangover cure, the ocean serves as the great healer of any ailments. And as surfers, we can build up quite the appetite paddling around out there in the water for hours on end, especially on a heavy winter or summer swell. Our problem, however, is that we find it extremely difficult to pull ourselves away from perfect waves when it’s in fact pumping, too often leading to extreme hunger and “Snickers” situations between your buddies in the lineup. Luckily we’ve compiled a list of our favorite spots in Pacific Beach to refuel before the getting back to work or back in the water.

Kono’s Café

Located right next to Crystal Pier on the PB boardwalk, Kono’s Café has everything under the sun for breakfast and lunch. Here, you can refuel with a view of the beach while chowing down on any number of their egg burritos, French toast or breakfast sandwiches. All of which go especially well with their fresh coffee or orange juice. The best part? They’re open every day from 7am-4pm except for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Taco Surf PB

Here you have access to any kind of Mexican food you can think for a reasonable price and taste that will have you coming back for more.

Fig Tree Café

If you’re looking for a bit more upscale breakfast with a healthy twist, then head to North PB to Fig Tree Café. We’re talking egg white omelets, gluten free and vegetation options and a dog-friendly atmosphere to boot! And they have an excellent location. Not too loud, peaceful and quiet; ideal for some post-surf relaxation before heading back towards the boardwalk. Check out their menu. We’re sure you’ll want to hit this place up!

Woodstock’s Pizza Pacific Beach

In all honesty, pizza sometimes is the best post-surf meal if you’re looking to stock up on carbs before heading back out in the water or for some daytime libations at the many bars in the area. Woodstock is in the middle of everything down here, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more centrally located jump off point to the rest of your day. And the pizza is amazing as well. They offer a multitude of specialty pizzas to choose from, but as we all know, sometimes it’s simply best to create your own.

Pacific Beach Alehouse

And what goes better with pizza than a cold beer!? Along with offering great food and an amazing craft beer selection, Pacific Beach Alehouse is, in fact, its own microbrewery. That’s right; you can enjoy some fresh beer brewed in-house by a handful of master brewers from the area. They boast both indoor and upstairs outdoor seating and turns into quite the party spot for those interested in making new friends in the area.
